Heel pain

Every time you take a step your heel strikes the ground with a considerable force, absorbing the impact from the weight of your body and providing you with a steady platform. Heel pain can make you miserable, affecting every step you take causing you to alter your gait and posture. This can in turn lead to other problems, such as neck, shoulder and backache.

At Cannon Barn Podiatry we treat all manner of heel pain conditions. The most common causes of heel pain that we see are plantar fasciitis and achilles tendinopathy.

PLANTAR FASCIITIS

This is the most common form of heel pain. It is often temporary, although even in temporary cases caused by injuries, the healing period may be many months. The cause can be hard to pinpoint.  There is often a need for treatment through a mixture of rest, support and advice about lifestyle changes. At Cannon Barn Podiatry we offer specialist supports for the heel that provide relief from pain. If the cause is posture related we offer gait analysis that can determine whether patients will benefit from having special implants fitted in their shoes that will correct posture and ease pressure on sensitive heel areas.

In some circumstances shockwave therapy can cure the cause and provide relief from the pain of plantar fasciitis.

ACHILLES TENDINOPATHY

Achilles tendon damage can build up over time, often as a result of many small injuries that individually are hardly noticed. Our treatments for Achilles tendinopathy include shockwave therapy.
